Last week, on February 11th, the Terminal Hub in Valencia, Spain hosted “Innovative initiatives for decarbonising the Mediterranean”; an event organised by SEAFAIRER project partner Fundación Valenciaport.

The event focused on sharing and discussing the different initiatives that are being carried out for port decarbonisation, alternative fuels for hard-to-abate sectors, and adaptation to climate change, with a special focus on the port infrastructure and ecosystem in and around Valencia, Europe’s 4th largest port.
It featured the participation of four projects funded under the Horizon Europe programme, namely SEANERGY, SEAFAIRER, POSEIDON, and BLUEBARGE, as well as the Horizon 2020-funded ARSINOE, and the EMFAF-funded GreenMED and Power4MED. Therefore, the event covered topics from biogenic fuels to e-methanol, integrated electricity systems, and offshore power supply – all converging towards green shipping and net-zero port operations.

DTU and TERGY SAGAVA were present at the event and the panel discussion together with the partner projects and were given a tour of the Port of Valencia to witness the decarbonisation efforts on-site.
Gràcies, Fundación Valenciaport, for the warm welcome and for showing us to the port where – in SEAFAIRER’s final project year – a test vessel will set sail carrying a biofuel blend we will produce.
