SEAFAIRER launches Spanish Community of Practice in Valencia
Just three weeks ago, SEAFAIRER took a significant step forward in fostering maritime sustainability by officially launching its Spanish Community of Practice (COP). The inaugural event, held online, focused on the vibrant ecosystem in and around Port of Valencia and the wider Comunidad Valenciana —home to project partner Fundación Valenciaport (FVP)—and brought together a diverse group of 12 leading organisations from across the maritime sector. Participants included major certification societies, global maritime service providers, naval and port associations, as well as renowned research centres and universities, all united by a shared vision for a greener maritime future, and sharing specific challenges related to the uptake of marine biofuels.
Daniel Pichler, Project Manager from DTU, presented an overview of the SEAFAIRER project, its objectives, and the pivotal role of the Spanish COP in driving regional impact. Moderation was expertly handled by Fabio Gutiérrez and María Soler de Díos from Fundación Valenciaport, who guided the discussions and ensured active engagement throughout the open discussion. Cristiane Sánchez shared insights on the latest trends and challenges in the uptake of bio-oil within the maritime sector, courtesy of SEAFAIRER’s commercial partner Tergy Sagava.
The successful launch of the Spanish Community of Practice marks an exciting milestone for SEAFAIRER. As the COP continues to grow, it will play a central role in shaping the project’s activities in Spain, fostering cross-sectoral partnerships, and providing real answers as to how biofuels can help decarbonise the Port of Valencia by 2030, which is the Spanish COP’s regionally driven objective. The enthusiasm and commitment demonstrated by all participants underscore the relevance of the topic and the role of biofuels for decarbonisation of the Mediterranean and the European maritime sector.

SEAFAIRER lanza la Comunidad de Práctica Española en Valencia
Hace apenas tres semanas, SEAFAIRER dio un paso significativo hacia el fomento de la sostenibilidad marítima al lanzar oficialmente su Comunidad de Práctica (COP) en España. El evento inaugural, celebrado en formato online, se centró en el vibrante ecosistema del Puerto de Valencia y la Comunidad Valenciana —hogar del socio del proyecto Fundación Valenciaport (FVP)— y reunió a un grupo diverso de 12 organizaciones líderes del sector marítimo. Entre los participantes se encontraban las principales sociedades de certificación, proveedores globales de servicios marítimos, asociaciones navales y portuarias, así como reconocidos centros de investigación y universidades, todos unidos por una visión compartida de un futuro marítimo más verde y por los retos específicos relacionados con la adopción de biocombustibles marinos.
