From 9th to 12th June 2025, SEAFAIRER participated in the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition (EUBCE), held in Valencia, Spain.
The EUBCE provided an excellent opportunity to disseminate SEAFAIRER internationally, with a presentation by DTU in the Exhibition Forum, participation in the workshop organised by M2ARE project and a highly visible project booth which saw numerous visitors stop by to learn more about our research, the SEAFAIRER value chain, the project’s objectives and opportunities for collaboration. Fundación Valenciaport and Fraunhofer UMSICHT were also present at EUBCE 2025, both with dedicated presentations related to the project’s core R&D activities.
On 10 June SEAFAIRER collaborated with other Horizon Europe projects – M2ARE project, COCPIT, FUEL-UP and POSEIDON – for a dedicated session on “Innovation and sustainability for the maritime sector”.
During this session, DTU introduced SEAFAIRER, providing insights about feedstock and output versatility, market intel acquired by the commercial partner SAGAVA, as well as testing and certification activities required to reach the ocean vessel demonstration as a key milestone for commercialisation.
The parallel discussion that followed the presentations of each project focused on key guiding questions, aiming to clarify crucial aspects such as the technological challenges and opportunities in for the wider uptake of biofuels in existing marine transport engines, the contribution of the projects involved in accelerating the adoption of biofuels in maritime transport, and the importance of collaboration between Horizon Europe initiatives to promote the development and large-scale deployment of sustainable marine transport fuels.
EUBCE also marked the first (informal) meeting with Stella Bezergianni from Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), the coordinator of ABATE. ABATE is the second Horizon Europe project funded under the same call as SEAFAIRER. It was agreed to start discussions on how both projects can explore synergies.
